Breaking In

Imagine how much planning went into that magnanimous intersection between the Son of man and all of humanity. I bet the Father, Son and Spirit bubbled with excitement waiting to unfold the tangible steps of a perfect plan to rescue an imperfect world full of imperfect people. All of eternity culminated in that humble moment when Mary brought forth Jesus to a motley crew of shepherds, and laid Him in a cow’s food troth. History was altered that night, in the most obscure of ways.

After two years of praying, 17 of us gathered last night in our basement. We came together with two hopes: that God would begin shaping us into the core of a new Christian community in Silver Spring, and that He would rise up those who would sacrifice themselves to lead in this new family. The God who made the world and everything in it, who does not need anything, but provides life, breath and all things, met us as we each shared about how He has broken into our individual stories. Christ is individually changing everyone who met around His table last night. Taking communion together, we reminded each other that though we all once sat under God’s wrath, Jesus was crushed for us that we might now rest in His mercy and love. As our community began last night to relish in that truth, the cornerstone of this new family, we began the process of revealing the good news to the world. To savor Christ internally is the first step of showing Him to a needy world. It might not look like much is happening, yet eternity may just be altered as Jesus shows up in and through us.

Pray: 1. After 2 weeks in Silver Spring we are getting settled! Pray for Jake (and Courtney!) as he started public school today, a change in plans for our family. Pray also for our family to establish new rhythms in a pretty fluid time. 2. For our house in TX to sell! It is almost fully staged, thanks for your help! If you have master bedroom furniture I would love to borrow it. 3. For God to create a solid core team of leaders to serve and love Silver Spring as we walk towards those who don’t know Jesus. 4. For ongoing wisdom on how to follow the Spirit’s leadership in this crucial start-up time.
